We are currently recruiting a dedicated, resilient and compassionate Learning Support Assistant to join a specialist SEN secondary school supporting students with complex Autism (ASC), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) and Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD).

All candidates must be willing to undergo full safeguarding checks, including an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, and provide suitable professional references.

About the role

This is a hands-on role working with secondary-aged students with very complex needs, and it will involve regular personal care. This may include support with toileting, feeding, mobility, and personal hygiene.
Please only apply if you are fully comfortable and willing to provide personal care as part of your daily role.

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will work closely with teachers, therapists and support staff to help students access education, develop communication and life skills, and feel safe, supported and understood within the school environment. Your patience, empathy and commitment will be essential in helping pupils engage with learning and everyday routines.

About the school

This is a specialist secondary provision for students aged 11–19 with severe, profound and complex learning needs. Many pupils have additional medical, sensory, physical and communication needs alongside their diagnosis of ASC, SLD or PMLD.

The school offers:

  • Highly personalised education tailored to each student’s cognitive, physical and emotional needs
  • A strong focus on communication, independence, life skills and emotional wellbeing
  • A calm, structured and nurturing environment
  • A multi-disciplinary approach where education, care and therapeutic support work together

Staff work as part of a close-knit team to deliver consistent, high-quality support to some of the most vulnerable young people in education. The role is demanding but extremely rewarding for the right candidate.

Requirements

To be considered for the role of Learning Support Assistant – Specialist SEN Secondary School you will:
  • • Have experience supporting children or young people with SEN, ASC, SLD or PMLD (school, care, or support work experience accepted).
  • • Be fully willing and comfortable to carry out personal care — this is an essential part of the role.
  • • Be confident supporting secondary-aged students with very complex needs and behaviours.
  • • Be patient, compassionate, resilient and emotionally robust.
  • • Be able to follow care plans, behaviour strategies and therapeutic guidance.
  • • Be committed to supporting students’ learning, emotional wellbeing, physical needs and personal development.
Salary is dependent on experience, training or qualifications. The minimum experience, training or qualifications required for this position are:
  • 2 years experience working with complex needs
  • Willing to provide personal care
ABC Teachers is committed to safeguarding children, young people and vulnerable adults. We take our responsibilities extremely seriously. All staff we register will undertake thorough interviewing and referencing checks and hold, or be prepared to undergo, an Enhanced DBS check that must be registered on the Update Service.
