ABC Teachers is looking for skilled SEN Learning Support Assistant to join a specialist SEN School in Birmingham on a full-time basis.

About the role

  • Work confidently with pupils with SEMH needs, offering calm, consistent support and helping to create a positive learning environment.
  • Build professional, trusting relationships with students to better understand their unique needs and how to support them effectively in school.
  • Assist the class teacher with the delivery of engaging, structured lessons, and provide targeted support in small groups or 1:1 as needed.
  • Help assess and monitor student progress, using baseline data and existing assessments to guide support strategies.
  • Support pupils in developing emotional regulation, resilience, and confidence - helping them re-engage with education at their own pace.

About the school

  • The school supports pupils in Years 7–9 who are currently unable to access mainstream education due to complex SEMH needs.
  • With smaller class sizes, the school creates a calm and focused learning environment where support is personalised to each student’s needs, interests, and abilities.
  • Offers a broad and balanced curriculum, taught by subject specialists and supported by skilled staff who work together to meet every child where they are.
  • The school’s approach is holistic and inclusive – prioritising emotional wellbeing, high aspirations, safety, and a sense of belonging for every student.
  • Based in Birmingham, the school is easily accessible from Coventry, Worcester, and surrounding areas.

Requirements

To be considered for the role of SEN Learning Support Assistant you will:
  • Have previous experience working with children and young people with a range of special educational needs, such as learning difficulties, autism, and sensory needs.
  • Suitable qualifications such as Youth Work, Health and Social Care or Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools are desired but not essential.
  • Have strong communications skills with the ability to quickly build rapport with students.
  • Able to obtain suitable references and a DBS check.
Salary is dependent on experience, training or qualifications. The minimum experience, training or qualifications required for this position are:
  • At least two years of experience supporting people with special educational needs.
