ABC Teachers are seeking a skilled and dedicated Teaching Assistant (sport background) to work within an SEN school in Birmingham, part of the Think Differently Education Trust (who we are proud to be working with as a Managed Service Partner)
About the role
- Support students with a passion for sports and physical activity, using their interests as a tool to engage them in the wider curriculum and foster a love for learning.
- Work 1:1 or in small groups to provide academic support across subjects (particularly English and Maths), adapting tasks to suit individual learning styles and needs.
- Build positive relationships with students with autism and/or Social, Emotional & Mental Health (SEMH) needs, using coaching-style communication and a calm, consistent approach.
- Help integrate physical activity and movement breaks into the school day to support emotional regulation, focus and behaviour management.
- Act as a role model and mentor, encouraging positive attitudes, resilience, and healthy lifestyles, while also tracking and supporting students' academic progress.

Requirements
- Have previous experience working with children and young people with a range of special educational needs, such as learning difficulties, autism, and sensory needs.
- Suitable qualifications such as Youth Work, Health and Social Care or Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools are desired but not essential.
- Have strong communications skills with the ability to quickly build rapport with students.
- Able to obtain suitable references and a DBS check.
- At least two years of experience supporting people with special educational needs.
