ABC Teachers are seeking a skilled and dedicated SEN Learning Support Assistant to work within an SEN school in Birmingham, part of the Think Differently Education Trust (who we are proud to be working with as a Managed Service Partner)

About the role

  • Provide calm, consistent support to pupils with autism and other complex needs, helping to create a safe, positive, and engaging learning environment.
  • Build trusting, professional relationships with students to understand their individual needs and tailor your support accordingly.
  • Work closely with the class teacher to deliver structured, engaging lessons, offering targeted support in small groups or 1:1 settings as required.
  • Model respectful, inclusive behaviour and contribute to a classroom culture where every student feels valued, heard, and respected.
  • Support pupils in developing emotional regulation, confidence, and resilience—empowering them to re-engage with learning at a pace that’s right for them.

About the school

  • Provides specialist education for autistic children and young people aged 11 to 19.
  • Maintains a positive and vibrant school culture, with a strong sense of community at its core.
  • Offers a creative, ambitious, and broad curriculum that nurtures students’ strengths and interests, promotes independence, and supports pathways to future employment.
  • Encourages spiritual, moral, social, and cultural development by helping pupils reflect on their experiences, understand the impact of their actions, and engage with new opportunities.
  • Based in North Birmingham, with the position available for an immediate start.

Requirements

To be considered for the role of Learning Support Assistant you will:
  • Have previous experience working with children and young people with a range of special educational needs, such as learning difficulties, autism, and sensory needs.
  • Suitable qualifications such as Youth Work, Health and Social Care or Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools are desired but not essential.
  • Have strong communications skills with the ability to quickly build rapport with students.
  • Able to obtain suitable references and a DBS check.
Salary is dependent on experience, training or qualifications. The minimum experience, training or qualifications required for this position are:
  • At least two years of experience supporting students with special educational needs.
ABC Teachers is committed to safeguarding children, young people and vulnerable adults. We take our responsibilities extremely seriously. All staff we register will undertake thorough interviewing and referencing checks and hold, or be prepared to undergo, an Enhanced DBS check that must be registered on the Update Service.
