ABC Teachers are seeking a skilled and dedicated Science Teacher to work within an SEN school in Birmingham, part of the Think Differently Education Trust (who we are proud to be working with as a Managed Service Partner)
About the role
We are currently seeking a science teacher to work in a school within the Think Differently Education Trust, who will play a key role in ensuring that young people continue their education while receiving medical care. Lessons are carefully adapted to meet each pupil’s health needs and aligned, where possible, with their home school curriculum. Teaching may take place one-to-one or in small groups, helping students stay engaged with science despite the challenges of hospital treatment.
The role also involves close collaboration with healthcare staff to ensure learning is appropriate and supportive. By creating a positive and flexible learning environment, the science teacher helps maintain a sense of normality, builds confidence, and supports pupils in successfully transitioning back to their mainstream education.
About the school
Part of the James Brindley Academy, delivering high-quality education to children and young people in hospital across Birmingham. The dedicated team supports pupils from EYFS through Post-16 who are receiving inpatient care, ensuring continuity in their learning and helping reduce the educational impact of medical stays. They work across multiple hospital sites, including Birmingham Children’s Hospital, Heartlands Hospital and Queen Elizabeth Hospital, collaborating closely with NHS professionals and pupils’ home schools to personalise every learning experience.
The ethos at James Brindley is to “Think Differently” — creating an inclusive, nurturing environment where young people are at the heart of all that they do. Staff across their specialist settings combine high expectations with compassionate, responsive teaching that reflects the individual educational, medical, social and emotional needs of their pupils. They strive to build resilience and encourage perseverance in every learner.
