ABC Teachers are currently seeking passionate and experienced support staff/Teaching Assistants to support children who face barriers to education, including SEMH, ADHD and emotional regulation difficulties, and other additional needs.

Referenceable SEMH experience

About the role

We’re looking for compassionate, child-centred professionals who can offer both consistency and patience, building trusting relationships with each young person. Many of the children have social and emotional challenges and can exhibit challenging behaviours that require a flexible, nurturing approach. These learners are unable to attend mainstream school and in order to thrive academically and socially, they require a curriculum which is tailored to their personal needs.

If you have experience supporting learners with SEMH and are confident in adapting the curriculum to meet children where they are—at a pace and level that suits their needs—we’d love to hear from you.

About the school

  • Pupils attending this school are between the ages of 11-16.

  • This school caters to pupils who are at risk of disengagement, have experienced permanent exclusion, or who have SEMH challenges.

  • This school focuses on a model of small group sizes and high staff-to- pupil ratios, tailoring the curriculum and degree of support needed, to each young person.

  • The school believes in regularly affirming and promoting positive behaviour; and conversely, communicating clear and consistent sanctions to pupils for when their behaviour is inappropriate.

Requirements

To be considered for the role of SEMH Teaching Assistant you will:
  • Experience working with children who exhibit challenging behaviours, with strong de-escalation skills/techniques.
  • An enhanced DBS on the update service/willingness to process purchase one.
  • Hands on experience supporting children with SEMH and confident in adapting to individual learning styles/methods of support.
Salary is dependent on experience, training or qualifications. The minimum experience, training or qualifications required for this position are:
  • An enhanced DBS on the update service/willingness to process purchase one.
ABC Teachers is committed to safeguarding children, young people and vulnerable adults. We take our responsibilities extremely seriously. All staff we register will undertake thorough interviewing and referencing checks and hold, or be prepared to undergo, an Enhanced DBS check that must be registered on the Update Service.
