We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Lesson Support Worker for the Visually Impaired to join our team in Birmingham.
About the role
In this role, you will work closely with students who have visual impairments to ensure they have equal access to the curriculum and a positive learning experience. Your support will be instrumental in helping these students succeed academically and develop essential skills.
Key Responsibilities:
Student Support: Provide one-on-one or group support to students with visual impairments during lessons, ensuring they have access to all learning materials and activities.
Adapted Materials: Prepare and adapt learning materials, including textbooks, worksheets, and digital resources, to make them accessible for visually impaired students using braille, tactile graphics, audio, or assistive technology.
Assistive Technology: Familiarize students with assistive technology and tools designed for visually impaired individuals, such as screen readers, magnification software, and refreshable braille displays.
Note-taking: Assist students in taking notes, organizing class materials, and maintaining an effective system for managing assignments and deadlines.
Orientation and Mobility: Support students in developing orientation and mobility skills, including safe navigation within the school environment and travel skills in the community.
Braille Proficiency: It would be advantageous to possess proficiency in braille and teach braille literacy to students who require it.

Requirements
- Enhanced DBS Certificate on the update service, or willingness to take one out.
- Previous experience working with individuals with visual impairments or in special education is preferred.
- Knowledge of braille and familiarity with assistive technology used by visually impaired individuals.
