Are you passionate about supporting the welfare of others? We are seeking Health Care Assistants to support children with physical and Special Educational Needs in the Erdington area of Birmingham.

About the role

You will be working in a busy environment, supporting a variety of students with Physical and Special Educational Needs. Your primary role will be to support the children with personal care throughout the day. The role is demanding so previous experience of personal care is required, this can be within a school or care setting.

Elements of personal care include:

  • PEG Feeding or Suctioning experience is desirable

  • Aid with incontinence pad and nappy changes

  • Feeding and adherence to dietary restrictions

  • Support with medication where required

  • Safe Manual Handling practice

You will be expected to provide a high quality of care, be professional in your conduct and adhere to safeguarding standards.

Beneficial knowledge:

  • Personal Care, PECS, Makaton and manual handling are desired skills.

  • To ensure that SEND and Safeguarding legislation is truly in action: placing parents, families, children, and young people at the heart of their decision making.

About the school

An OFSTED Outstanding school where children love to learn and staff love to work, the curriculum has a strong focus on the holistic development of students, providing them with lifelong skills. The children's range from early years to sixth form, and all require different levels of support. There are around 270 students within the school, with a combination of physical disabilities, sensory impairment, learning difficulties and communication difficulties.

Requirements

To be considered for the role of Health Care Assistant you will:
  • Experience of personal care work within a care or schooling setting.
  • Experience of working with children with disabilities is preferred but work with vulnerable adults will be considered.
  • You will require an Enhanced DBS for a Child and Adult Workforce that is placed on the update service, or willingness to undertake one.
Salary is dependent on experience, training or qualifications. The minimum experience, training or qualifications required for this position are:
  • Experience of personal care work within a care or schooling setting.
