Primary Teacher Information and Jobs

Welcome to our Primary Teaching Jobs Page

ABC Teachers is a specialist teaching agency working with all types of schools across the country, but we are especially successful with early years and Primary schools.

We provide EYs, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 teachers to schools on a short term basis for example covering day-to-day supply where the full time teacher may be off on a course or may be suffering from short term illness, and on a long-term basis when maybe the regular teacher has left the school, off on maternity or suffering a more serious illness etc.

We have built a lot of relationships with schools throughout the country and as such, we are in continual need for Supply Teachers to join our team.

So what is it like working for a supply teaching agency? How will my day be?

After you have gone through our recruitment process, a member of our team will stay in regular contact with you, finding out when you are free. We have bookings in every day and your consultant will discuss these with you.

You may get a call on the morning of the booking, but they are usually booked well in advance. You will be told about the school and any additional information that you may need to know with regards to the booking.

For longer term positions we will ask you your thoughts about about the role and its requirements before sending you details over. We will give you as much detail as possible and in some cases the circumstances, for example if you are required cover someone who has been taken ill and we will not know the length of the booking.

Often when an individual has been in a school and the school have got to know the teacher, they are usually the first choice for any permanent positions that come up. ABC Teachers have agreements in place with primary schools in this situation, allowing the perfect school and perfect teacher to come together permanently.

What areas do we cover?

We work across England and currently we are recruiting in the West Midlands (including Birmingham, Black Country, Warwickshire and Staffordshire, Greater Manchester, East Midlands (in and around Leicester, Derby and Nottingham and the shires), South West (Bath, Bristol and Swindon), and Yorkshire (around the cities of Leeds and West Yorkshire, Sheffield and South Yorkshire).

What qualifications do I need to qualify for primary teacher jobs with ABC teachers? Can I work as an NQT?

ABC Teachers work with QTS qualified teachers and NQTs in primary schools.

NQTs we work with are often undecided as to what kind of school they want to work in and therefore working with us on supply gives them an opportunity to experience different types of schools and hone their teaching and classroom management skills before undertaking their all important induction tests. Many NQTs end up having permanent roles in schools we have placed them in.

How do I register? What is the process?

We are always working to make the registration process as simple as possible. The quickest way is register is online which can be done at any time of the day. Alternatively, during office hours you can call our free phone number 0800-030-4014 where you will be put through to your local consultant who will be able to advise you on all the things we can do for you.

How long does the process take before I can start working in primary schools?

We want to register everyone as quickly as possible. We also have a commitment to following all of the Department for Education safeguarding procedures, so there can be some delays waiting for criminal records checks from the Disclosures and Barring Service (DBS) and for references to come back.

We are very proactive in making this process as effective as possible but it is incredibly difficult to give an exact timeframe. If you have a DBS and your references get back to us immediately, then we can occasionally get you out to work the following day. We aim for less then 2 weeks to get our candidates cleared. (Summer holidays are different)
